Editing and proofreading

Together we will make it work!

Catherine Dunn

I’m a qualified and experienced developmental editor, copyeditor and proofreader, and my aim is to help you produce prose to be proud of.

I work with self-publishing authors, and I particularly enjoy helping first-timers turn their manuscript into a saleable finished product and gain the confidence to write more books. I love working on projects that are outside the norm. If you’re worried your work might put some people off – try me. No job too odd!

Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Fiction specialisms: fantasy, YA, sci fi, romance, horror and crime and contemporary fiction.

Non-fiction subject areas: arts, humanities, social sciences, memoir/autobiography, self-help and lifestyle.

I completed my proofreading training with the CIEP (then SfEP) in 2015 and went on to study copyediting with them later in the same year. Since then I have also trained in developmental editing. I find all three areas of work fulfilling in their own different ways! I would love to discuss your needs and find out how I can work with you to make your book, article, essay or dissertation the best it can be.

Most of my work is either directly with authors or for publishers. However, I also have experience working for businesses who want to tighten up and polish their website copy, promotional materials or internal documents. If you think I can help, do get in touch!

Before embarking on this career, I worked in administration and communication for non-profit organisations. I graduated in 2001 with a degree in Fine Art (Painting) from Loughborough University. My hobbies include art, knitting, drop spindle spinning and (very occasionally) jogging. I can also play the guitar (obnoxiously), the flute (to Grade 8) and the piano (badly), and I took voice lessons for a couple of years.
