Developmental editing<\/strong> is the process of hammering out the ‘big picture’. It looks at overarching issues such as structure, plot, characterisation, point of view, style, tone, themes, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copyediting <\/strong>is the process of getting your raw material ready for publication, either in print or digitally. It involves making sure your work reads well and is accurate, consistent and suitable for the intended audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proofreading<\/strong> is the final stage your manuscript or piece of work goes through before it goes to print or goes live online. It\u2019s the last step in making sure your work looks and reads just as you intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manuscript assessment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I call this a ‘dev edit light’ – I cover the same areas as in a dev edit, but I only do one read-through of the manuscript. It takes the form of a report only – no in-manuscript comments – and is shorter than a dev edit report at around 2-4 pages. I focus on conveying my first impressions and identifying key areas for improvement. I charge \u00a3300 for this service for an average-length book of 50,000 to 100,000 words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
